The Geography and The Early Settlement of India
India is a subcontinent of Asia. Three bodies of waters surround India. In India there are a lot of mountains, and rivers. The first settlement was by the rivers.
In India there are the two most important divisions. The two divisions are Indo-Gangetic plain and Ancient Southern Peninsular Massif. Indo-Gangetic plain is roughly 325,000 square miles in India. The Ancient Southern Peninsular Massif is about 735,000 square miles. There is also the Northern Mountain Wall.
The early settlement of India was near the Indus River. The first civilization of India was agriculture. They lived near the rivers because the water made the soil good for farming. The farmers grew wheat and barley. In 3000 B.C. the people of India grew cotton and made it into fabric. The settlers made copper and bronze tools. They also raised cattle, sheep, goats, and chicken, as well as traded with one and another.
The climate in India is warm because the tall mountains help block the wind from getting to India. In India they have two main seasons. The two seasons are the summer monsoons and winters monsoons. Monsoons are when there is a lot of rain and the wind blows in the opposite directions than usual.
In India there are a lot of rivers. The Indus River valley was home for the first civilization. The Saraswati River was home to great cities. Now the Saraswati River is dried up. It is now a desert. Now there are two great rivers. They are the Indus River and the Ganges River. The water of both of these rivers is used for irrigation.
In India there is a mountain range known as the highest mountain system in the world. That is the Himalayan Mountains. In other parts of India there are more mountains. A large part of the Northern Mountain wall sits beyond India. High mountain towers goes over the northern borders of India. They form many mountain ranges.
In conclusion, India has many great features to it, but to me the mountains are the greatest. The Himalaya and its great height have been a world marvel for many years.
